Free trucking calculators for the numbers behind every load

Rate per mile, cost per mile, detention, fuel, transit time, reefer fuel, pallets and freight class. Each tool shows its formula, lets you change every assumption and names its sources with dates. They're built by Fredrick for carriers deciding whether a load is worth it, and they're free with no sign-up.

Tools by category

Rates and money.
Check what an offer really pays per mile and per hour, set your counter-offer, price detention, and see what dispatch costs and returns.
Fuel and costs.
Work out your cost per mile, trip fuel at today's diesel price and the fuel surcharge on contract freight.
Loads and pallets.
Count the pallets that fit your trailer or 26 ft box, the linear feet a shipment takes, its density and class, and fair pay for multi-stop routes.
Equipment and time.
Estimate a delivery time with the hours-of-service breaks built in.
Reefer and produce.
Estimate reefer unit fuel, check safe transport temperatures and see which produce regions are shipping each month.

More tools are on the way, including axle weights, truck size and fleet costs. Each one gets the same treatment: the formula on the page, sources with dates, and tests on the math before it goes live. Use them on any device; they work the same on a phone in the cab as on a desktop in the office.

Most used by owner-operators

If you only use four, use these. Together they answer the question behind every offer: does this load pay more than it costs? Start with cost per mile to set your floor, then check every offer against it.

  1. 1Rate per mile calculatorSeparates the rate brokers quote from what a trip really earns once the empty miles are counted.
  2. 2Cost per mile calculatorGives you the floor every other number is judged against.
  3. 3Detention pay calculatorTurns a long wait at the dock into a number you can bill, on your rate con's terms.
  4. 4Fuel surcharge calculatorShows what fuel adds on contract freight at today's diesel price.

From numbers to loads

The tools tell you what a good load looks like for your truck. Finding enough of them, week after week, is the hard part. That's what our dispatch desk does: we search and negotiate against your floor, check every load, and send it to you for a yes or no. The broker sends the rate con straight to you. Our fee is 5% of gross for one truck with authority older than 6 months, only on loads you haul. See pricing, or read our guides.

About these tools

Q01Are these trucking calculators free?
Yes, all of them, with no sign-up. They run in your browser, remember your last inputs on your device, and let you copy a link to share a result. Nothing you type is sent to us unless you choose to submit one of our forms, which are separate from the tools.
Q02Where do the numbers come from?
The math uses your inputs, and every formula is shown on the tool's page. Where a tool starts from a real-world figure, such as the U.S. average diesel price, a regulation or a classification scale, it names the source and the month we checked it. Example defaults are labeled as examples.
